Antony And Cleopatra. A

Antony and Cleopatra Fernando Alonso Barahona Charlton Heston has always been a lover of theater and tables Shakespeare has played with great success and talent: Macbeth, King Lear, Marco Antonio, Julio Cesar … the love for the stage as has also led to the movies as often as it has been possible. In 1970 the actor starred in an adaptation of “Julius Caesar” in the film, directed by Stuart Burge and a star cast: John Gielgud, Christopher Lee and Robert Vaughn. The success led him to embark with Peter Snell in the exciting adventure of making images “Antony and Cleopatra,” one of the tragedies of Shakespeare’s most beautiful but less known to the public. The project was entirely personal and Heston offered it to his friends Laurence Olivier and Orson Welles, but none was available, so the protagonist of “The Ten Commandments” – which has already prepared the script and I knew in detail the work-decided also deal with the staging.

The story tells the Marco Antonio break with Rome to join Cleopatra, thus reaching the loneliness, defeat and death itself. In his memoirs, describes the harsh Charlton Heston film “Antony and Cleoptra” on Spanish soil (the film was co-produced by Films Izaro Fraser and his son, the future director, helped him as an assistant in the address) and in the midst of the praises technicians and Spanish partners, reveals his deep love for the theater of Shakespeare and the total dedication he had to deliver the project. Filming lasted from April to August 1971 in Almeria and Madrid.
